How to Choose a Tube Expander: the Tube Data We Need
Expanders are sized to the tube ID, tubesheet thickness and type of joint. Complete tube data is the only way to get the right size first time.
Common causes
- Only the OD was given, without wall or tubesheet thickness
- Joint type (parallel, tapered, flared) was not specified
How to diagnose
- Check that the expander range covers the tube ID before and after rolling
How to fix it
- Standard condensers and exchangers: A series three-roll or A5 five-roll expanders
- Thick tubesheets: H / H5 long-reach expanders
- Intermediate tubesheets: LH long-reach expanders
- Flared joints: F series flaring expanders
What to send us
- Tube OD, wall (mm or BWG) and material
- Tubesheet thickness and rolled length
- Joint type: parallel, tapered or flared
- Tube roller drive (square drive size)
